A very fine tortoiseshell, silver gilt and enamel singing bird box in its original travelling case. in very good condition with lovely enamelling to the top and underside of lid. the bird stands on top of a superb silver gilt pierced and decorated grille. the tortoiseshell is of good colour and the singing bird box has a hinged key or snuff holder to the rear.
on pushing the operating lever the lid opens and the full bodied bird pops through the grille & begins singing. it has a moving ivory beak, the bird turns, flaps his wings and tail and after his performance pops down through the grille & the lid lowers. possibly a bontems no 7.
