A most attractive french porcelain and ormolu mantelclock with a profusion of porcelain panels. the original gilding is in excellent condition and there is no damage of any kind to the porcelain. the clock is designed with the neo-classical in mind. the d-ended base has five porcelain plaques all incorporating neo-classical designs as does the plaque to the top of the clock over the dial and indeed the urn and cover surmounting the clock. the dial is porcelain and beside the clock housing are two altars burning the flames of everlasting love. below the dial is a good plaque of a young couple in a classical landscape. the 8 day bell striking movement is stamped on the backplate japy freres et cie and is numbered 2089. the movement is also marked lb either side of an anchor. france. circa 1870. 16 inches high by 11 inches wide by 5 inches deep ( 40 cms by 27.5 cms by 12.5 cms).
