An attracrive and unusual antique french grand tour thermometer in silvered and patinated bronze surmounted by a bronze figure of napoleon. set on an unusual square bronze base decorated with acanthus leaf mouldings and a wreath to the front. this rises to a good cylindrical silvered bronze column with alcohol thermometer and an engraved scale for both farenheit and reaumur. the column is surmounted by the figure of napoleon in a long coat and tricorn hat with his arm across his chest. circa 1840. 10.5 inches high by 2.5 inches square ( 26 cms by 6.25 cms)
