An antique french sterling silver confiturier with twelve spoons. the focus of this centerpiece is the final, a single flower surrounded by petals. beautiful large petals catch the eye very quickly. the top rim of the confiturier features a scrolling floral band.
the cut crystal bowl is surrounded by a pierced rim with twelve holders for the spoons and the lower rim features a classic beaded design. the bowl sets inside a tapered silver base which in turn sets on a square stepped base. the twelve spoons feature shell and smiling mascaron motifs. they are marked for .950 sterling silver as denoted by the minerve 1st. titre mark and the makers marks is difficult to read; however, i feel it may be for veuve durantine (vd and a bird). the confiturier is marked with the minerve 1st. titre mark twice on the lid and twice on the main piece.
originally intended for serving jam in an elegant fashion, the confiturier with crystal bowl offers endless possibilities for serving.
french, circa 1900
