A pansy paperweight, circa 1850, the open flower on a stem with a star cut base, although not signed, this is certainly french by either baccarat, st. louis or clichy, most likely baccarat. one miniscule small chip on the glass otherwise perfect. diameter approx 2 inches 5 cms.
antique paperweights were made in the \"classic\" years between 1845 and 1860 primarily in three french factories named baccarat, st. louis, and clichy. they made between fifteen and twenty five thousand weights in the classic period. weights (mainly of lesser quality) were also made in the united states, great britain, and elsewhere, though bacchus (uk) and new england glass company (usa) produced some that equaled the best of the french.
